Moon's Elevation through Waffle

Alongside my peers, we developed a strip of the moon's surface that aligned alongside next to one another. These strips placed emphasis on our communication with each other and how we would work to create a dynamic surface that flowed across and emulated the surface. Each of the peers involved in this project selected a section of the moon's surface to expand upon. In order to replicate the dynamic surface of the moon, it was agreed to use an on-line heat map resource that marked the values of elevation with a color scale that was easily recognizable. This provided a rough direction for each member to begin building out the waffle-sculpture. Each member divided their segment into a 22 x 12 grid and identified which parts of their grid had what level of elevation. A scale was created to keep the team members unified about the elevation levels in relation to their color. After thoroughly planning and creating a universal scale for the members, we built each of our models out using AutoCAD. AutoCAD provided a three-dimensional perspective and was a method primarily used to plan out the waffling of the model. The three-dimensional rendering is first formed out in AutoCAD to provide a visual for the height and elevation levels of the model, and it will be perceived. For a more in-depth perspective of the waffle technique, certain pieces are pulled out from the grid. This offers an opportunity for an audience to see how each piece of the waffle grid applies to the overall model. The final model was made with two-sided thick card stock material after being drafted with cardboard. The two-sided card-stock material provided a unique perspective of the model and played with the two sides of the moon analogy. Hence, the final model features a light side and a dark side, and can be aligned with 20 other models in a row to accurately depict various elevation on the moon.
